Oppo Smartphone Officially Launches Li-Fi Network!

Oppo patented a smartphone with a Li-Fi module. This is a potential alternative to Wi-Fi connectivity

Oppo strives to be innovative and often offers interesting solutions that will later be presented on its smartphones. The latter concerns the next generation of wireless technology, which has the opportunity to become an alternative to the widely used Wi-Fi.

Oppo has patented a device that will use Li-Fi technology, providing up to 100 times faster transmission than Wi-Fi. The Chinese manufacturer shows in its application three places where you can install a Li-Fi receiver that processes the change in the amplitude of light into an electrical signal which is then sent to the module itself.

Unlike Wi-Fi, Li-Fi does not transmit data using radio waves but instead uses light diodes. This forces the use of a photodetector, without which it is impossible to obtain information. The significant advantages of this new technology are large data transfer rates (more than 10 Gbps), a high level of security, and the possibility to be used, for example, underwater.

The problem, however, is the range, only 10 meters. Also, Li-Fi doesn't work through walls, so if you move from room to room frequently, using modules can be difficult and very tiring. Therefore, it is hard to think that from the solution that Oppo patented in the short term, a product that could even enter the market would be born. However, it is good that Oppo has used such technology, as it has a good chance of relatively fast adoption in the market.
